Exporting data from the GTP website to Excel
The GTP website provides the ability for you to download and save GTP data such as the results
of your customized search from the Site Locator into an Excel document. When you click on the "Export
Search Results to Excel" link you will be presented with a dialog box similar to
the one below. Note that you have three options: "Open", "Save", and "Cancel."
Clicking on "Cancel" will simply close the dialog box and will not save the file
on your computer.

Clicking the "Open" or "Save" buttons result in very different actions. The important
thing to note is that "Open" downloads and then opens the Excel document
INSIDE
your browser while clicking "Save" downloads the Excel
file to the location you specify on your computer and
then gives you the option to open the document INSIDE
Excel. The process is outlined below.
Clicking the "Open" button:
Clicking the "Open" button will automatically download the file and open the result set inside your broswer window. Notice that you are not
asked to provide a location to save the file. It is saved in the browser's temporary
internet files. You must save the data yourself by clicking the
"File" menu item in the top left menu and then "Save As" menu item. You
will be presented with a Dialog box similar to the one below. Note that the default
options will not save the file in a normal Exel format. It will save the file as
an HTML file!

To save the file in Excel format change the "Save as type" to "Microsoft Office
Excel Workbook (*.xls)" via the drop down list and then choose the location on your computer where you
want to save the file.
Make sure you remove the quotation marks from the filename.
Clicking the "Save" button:

If you click the "Save" button the data will by default be saved in Excel format
so all you need to do is specify the location on your computer that you want to
save the file. The file will download to the location you specify and then you can
open it normally as you would any Excel file.
